Colorado 400 - Good on UI but BAD on Position - plain BAD
I've owned a Garmin Colorado 400 for the past 6 months. I immediately found that the GPS reception and position data was accurate (matched to older Garmin Vista and HP GPS) - BUT that the embedded Garmin map is OFF. It is poorly registered to the UTM position - by over 75 feet at my home and by nearly the same amount at various locations I visited several 100 miles apart.
I've made several contacts with Garmin customer service - who had the audacity to tell me that their GPS map products are only for "recreational purposes." And that I should use common sense and my own observations (rather than the GPS) to determine my location and route needed to arrive at any destination!
That's great - what is the GPS for?
Using this GPS out in the bush, I could bushwhack in the wrong direction attempting to intersect with a forest road or a hiking trail. Or I could end on the wrong side of a ravine or cliff.
Garmin has accepted no blame nor offered any solution - which could be as easy as a command to adjust the map offset. I have a very interesting paperweight to attach to my belt - if I don't decide to leave it at home instead.
