Garmin eTrex Legend C

Purchased an Garmin Etrex Legend C hand held GPS for survey work with the USFS. The unit was always kept clean and in my day pack.
The unit had trouble finding signals in the Salmon river corridor and deep stream drainages. even light tree canopies would block reception. Having the unit on the north side of my pack would often cause the unit to loose signal.
Just after the warranty expired (go figure) the unit would not operate on batteries but will would when powered by the USB cable. Garmin is more than happy to repair the unit but at $150 bucks. I paid good money for the unit (it was a personal purchase not a USFS purchase) and figured it would last for more than two years. I would re-think a garmin purchase.
