Jensen NVX200 GPS

Want a real "entry-level" GPS? Look no further than the Audiovox Jensen NVX200. I actually picked one up at a local HHG for $99. (No rebates either). Yes, that's correct. Same unit being sold for $50-100 more at many places. It contains a separate 1 GB SD card as well. Auto charger and USB charger but no AC/DC charger. No manual - available as 80+ pages online.

Crystal clear screen, automatic day/night functions, turn voice but no streets verbalized - just glance at the screen. Maps via TeleAtlas cover US and Canada only. No other maps available. Multiple languages as voice however. Maps probably 2005-2006 from my use over the past 2 days. Uses SirFIR III satellite system. Excellent capture of system. Lots of details from the satellite, speed, time to destination, etc.

You'd swear it was a Garmin unit with size, etc. Functionality not as good as Garmin. No mp3 or jpg capabilities that I can find so the SD disk not so helpful. May take it back..... Still have a little time.

lockups & directions

Purchased my 200 last year,recently drove cross country with it. It's VERY important to know when you are being lied to,this thing WILL lie to you sometimes!! However, overall a pretty handy gizmo, just be sure to take a map and cross check occasionally. As for lockups, mine did it once, after hitting the reset button on the back a few times, all was well!! Happy motoring.

P.S.: hey Jensen, how bout being a team player and help your paying customers with some upgrades and some support!!!!!!

GPS does not come on.

If your GPS does not come on try to depress the brasshollow button at the back with a pen or pointer. Also ensure that the device is not on mute.

i have had one for three years now. Have made several trips to USA.it is good except does not have directions for new subdivisions. Could not find update yet.

I've had this gps for at least 4 years and it has always been dependable. However, it just kicked the bucket and I cant find anything comparable to replace it. I have looked but cannot find another gps that will search my favorite poi's according to their distance from me or from my destination. Just got off the phone with Magellan and they do not have a gps wich will provide that function. OMG! I need a new Jensen NVX200. Do they even make them anymore?

Jensen NVX200 locks up

Had my Jensen NVX200 for about 3 years. Just went on a trip and it kept locking up, then it wouldn't come on. Charged the internal battery overnight - still not coming on----manual has no troubleshooting hints, can't find Jensen on-line or a phone number. I checked the 5VDC input okay. Does anyone have a fix for this problem, short of throwing it away?

No hope in gettig a map update

I got a jensen 200 at a golf turnament, as the roads changed in arround Vancouver I was looking for an update, can't fined one.the unit is hard to work and navigate on the screen. So reading all the comments I may just take it to the Saly army store.

I paid 200 for my at our company store on sale. I got taken it seems. I just tried to get from my hotel in denver to work place I have not been to yet and it took me all over the place but where I wanted to go. seems they built new roads with in last 5 years and it does not recognize them. It wants to take me through fricken rest stops and then back on the highway??? You cant get updates on this unit. I am going to look for a garmin right away.. This thing is honestly dangerous!

Virus attacked computer

Received this NVX200 for christmas, owners manual cd was blank OR was full of Trojan virus's. I placed CD into computer and nothing happened. I DO have Acrobat 9.0 so it is not a case of not having the proper software to ciew the CD. After getting a blank on my CD, I went to the Jensen website and found the manual. As soon as I attempted to download the manual my AVG virus protection went crazy. Make a long story short these virus's (9 in total) wreaked havoc on my computer, my AVG was unsuccessful in stopping these virus's until it dmamaged my harddrive. I had to complete a system restore and lost about 400 Presentations for work, all my pictuires and very sensistive work info. I am pissed and would very much like to insert this cd into someones arse! Thanks for nothing!! I'll use a MAPSCO!

Beware of viruses on NVX200

The salesman at HHGregg lied to me. He told me all I had to do is hook it up to the usb on my computer and go on the internet and it would update. Well the minute I hooked it up it put a nasty virus on my computer. None of the antivirus software could combat it. I basically had to wipe my hard drive.
Oh yeh the manual is on the CD that comes with it along with Active Sync whatever that is. You have to have Adobe Acrobat to read it and still it is extremely confusing. And so are the menus on the GPS.
And the routing is terrible too. It will tell you to make U-turns weather it is legal or safe.
This thing is awful! avoid it like the plague!

Can't find updated maps anywhere and no direct phone number for customer service, they know they put out a piece of S**T and don't want all the phone calls, save your money and go for a garmin.

Divorce imminent?

Hi Anon,
Have you sought a good divorce lawyer? You need a divorce from this outdated, overpriced, mean-spirited thing. Cut your losses (don't bother wasting your time looking for a fix since the Jensen unit isn't worth your time and money.) If you kept it too long hoping upon hope the relationship would work out and returns are not possible, you've been screwed. Buy an economical Garmin nuvi 200W like I did. It ain't perfect but then who is?

I paid over $150 for the Jensen touch and go and it's not accurate. It tells you unreachable destination, it makes you drive over 500 miles out of your way and not reaching your destination.
Anther problem with this GPS is, it doesn't come with a manual & one more thing before I go is it takes a while to recalculate the place that you want to. What Kind GPS is this?

Anybody with more information about helping me out with this solution please respond back asap

Folks, FWIW,I fell for the same rouse at HHG with that sale priced Jensen. It's like a pretty lady with an evil intent. Enjoy the company but don't look under the skin too deep. There are no updated maps. You won't get a manual. You won't get any phone or E-support. The Garmins are the way to go. Spend $179 and get a Model 200. or $200+ and get a 200W. If you can take back the Jensen do so and don't delay.

I purchased 2 of these. One for me and one as a present. They both had trouble with the directions and began freezing until eventually they were completely unsable. The freeze and do not turn on. I'm stuck with 2 of these and to get them on the phone is impossible.

Nice unit for $99 at HHGregg. Own a Garmin 330 as well. Garmin is easier to use, but Jensen has more detailed information. It's night map is sweet, cuts the glare a ton. Only had it a day, but I like it. Like anything, the more options you have, the longer it'll take to figure it out. Real nice buy.

Well, I did take it back. Simply did not perform as I had anticipated as the maps are old and you simply cannot update them. If you live in an area that has absolutely no new construction or change in the road system it might be good for 2-3 years but I decided I would splurge and get the Garmin 200 W. While it isn't completely up to date with its maps, they are certainly better than the Jensen and they are upgradable from a resource that is available. I went online looking for some resource to upgrade the Jensen maps and there just aren't any. I suspect the company doesn't pay any royalties to the mapping companies and therefore no upgrades are possible. The widescreen Garmin 200 W. is perfect for me. I don't need the voice nor the MP3 playing like the higher-priced Garmins. You can add your own SD card and put your photos in there if you wish. Prices are coming down rapidly and the standard Garmin 200 is now down around $200.
Don't leave home without it!

My Jensen NVX200 GPS came with a CD which had the manual on it. It's one of the better GPS systems I have seen for the price. I got mine at HHG for $99.00 I love it but I do wish it did come with a AC charger - but that's okay.

HEY. I paid 117 for mine at hhgregg! :(

I still like it though. I do wish to still be able to use my Garmin maps though. SO I may take mine back too, or not. haven't decided!

It does have a number of cool features that I was looking for, since my gps v was getting old.
