Answers

Q: My business or home cannot be found on GPS units. How can I get my address listed?
A: Navteq and Tele Atlas are the two main companies that supplies the data for almost all GPS maps as well as Google Maps, etc.

Go to http://www.navteq.com/ - click on Map Reporter and fill out the form and
go to: http://mapinsight.teleatlas.com/mapfeedback/index.php and follow the directions.

Q: My business or home address appears on GPS units, but people cannot find me because the directions are wrong. How can I correct this?
A: Same as above.

Q: How do I get an owner's manual for my GPS?
A: Manufacturers offer PDF downloads of their manuals on their websites. Below are links to each manufacturer's manual download page.
Garmin
Lowrance
Magellan
Mio/Navman
Navman
TomTom

Q: Do I have to pay to use the GPS system?
A: No. Once you've bought the GPS device, there is no charge to use the GPS system.

Q: How can I get a GPS tracking microchip implanted on my pet in case s/he gets lost?
A: You can't. There are at least two reasons: 1) Technology hasn't advanced enough to make the circuitry that small; 2) To find your pet, your pet's location would need to be transmitted to some receiving station. That transmission would require a power source and current technology doesn't allow for a power source to be included in a microchip.

Q: Why do you say Scotland is not a country, you blithering idiot?
A: I love you, too. What I have written is based on the information found here: Definining an Independent Country and here: Why Scotland Does Not Meet the Definition of an Independent State. Furthermore, the CIA World Factbook does not list Scotland.

Q: Can I buy (whatever) from you?
A: No. This website does not sell anything - it provides information only.

Q: Where can I find bulk lat/lon to UTM converters?
A: The US National Geodetic Survey has a DOS based utility to do this at: http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/PC_PROD/UTMS/. There is an option to run interactively or as a batch file. Downside is batch file must be formatted to fit one of their somewhat obscure record types.

Here's an Excel spreadsheet that might be able to help: http://www.uwgb.edu/dutchs/UsefulData/UTMFormulas.htm. This would give you the formulas to write your own software.

Also: Blue Marble makes conversion/calculation software http://www.bluemarblegeo.com/products/calculator.php and http://www.connect.net/jbanta/Products.html.

Q: Where can I go to ask a question not listed here?
