Nextar w3g and Garmin nuvi 255 - Disappointment.

by Abe Funk

My wife & I bought a Nextar w3g GPS, & used it on several trips. Several times the maps were way off, & it had trouble finding the satellites. Upon investigating, we were told there are no map upgrades available for this model.
We took it to the dealer & he exchanged it for a Garmin nuvi 255 which he assured us was upgradeable. We found the maps to be about 4-5 years out of date, & the little tutorial booklet totally inadequate. Do we pay for a map upgrade right out of the box?? I don't think so. Its going back also. I'm very frustrated.

Garmin Gps units are the best out there. Yeah the maps probably would be outdated due to Garmin does not update maps remotely. But you can buy update maps for Garmin products at Best Buy or any other store that sells Garmin products.

Basically any gps unit you buy will most likely have outdated maps even if its brand new cause the store may have bought it in early 2010 so they will only have 2010 maps.

I don't recommend going back to Nextar W3G model. Nextar does not have any support for it or map updates.
